Call for Nominations: Band Director of the Year Award

It’s that time of year again to nominate your favorite school band director for the CHBA Bill Thompson Band Director of the Year Award!

Last year, CHBA received several excellent nominations that were evaluated by a three-member panel of judges from the Colorado music community.

The 2009 Bill Thompson Band Director of the Year was Mr. Dan Reinschmidt of Sierra Middle School.

Mr. Reinschmidt was nominated by one of his students, Cameron Coday, an 8th grader at Sierra Middle School and a clarinetist in Colorado Honor Band’s  Advanced Band.   Cameron said that she nominated  him because:

“Mr. Reinschmidt reminds us that music is a commitment….we all depend on each other.  He teaches us this every day.”

The 2009 finalists were:Mike Snell from ThunderRidge High School, Mr. Bill Hamaker from PineLane Intermediate, Ms. Sally Clevland from Moody Elementary School, Ms. Kay Corell from PineGrove Elementary School, and Mr. Keith Oxman from East High School.

CHBA was founded in 1953 by Bill Thompson. This award, in Mr. Thompson’s memory, recognizes one outstanding school band director in Colorado each year for his/her dedication to reaching students through instrumental music education.

Current or former students are encouraged to nominate their Band Director. All band directors of public or private schools in Colorado who are currently teaching at the elementary, middle and high school levels are eligible for this award.  Sorry but CHBA staff and faculty are not eligible.

Here is the 2010 nomination form:
